The Brothers Grimm

I went and saw The Brothers Grimm on Saturday, Terry Gilliam's new film guess I liked it okay, but the plot didn't seem to go anywhere for most of the film, largely because nearly all the characters in the film go from the town to the evil tower and back again three times. The movie literally goes in circles.

That said, Gilliam is still an incredible fantasist. The magical kidnapping of the children and the moving trees in the magic forest are probably the best "fairy tale" type scenes ever put on screen. Many of the other usual features of Gilliam movies show up here: people pretending to be knights, government officials who despise irrationality, elaborate torture devices. I think I'll have to see it again to decide if I liked it or not.
