Lost (Episode 4, "Walkabout")

Last week's episode of Lost, where we found about Locke's past, was about as good as hour of TV as I've seen since Deadwood ended it's season. The episode was written by David Fury, a former Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer, and it showed. "Walkabout" was funny and emotional and structured to have a great twist at the end.

"I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find the invisible monster for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten."

This episode has gotten me to thinking about the title of the show. While "Lost" may describe the characters' predicament, I also wonder if it doesn't refer to the fact that many of the characters seem to have lost something that they regained by crashing on the island. What Locke lost and regained should be obvious if you saw this episode. Kate lost her freedom and now has it back. Walt was powerless to affect his own life after his mother died, but now his wishes appear to be coming true. I wonder if this will continue to be a theme as the show continues.
