Survivor: All-Stars (Recent Unpleasantness)

We’re six weeks into Survivor: All-Stars and it doesn’t really feel like the game has even started yet. Part of it is that we’ve had two contestants quit because of unpleasantness not directly related to the machinations of their teammates. Another part of is that the people voted off have largely been those people who had already won the million dollars on a previous season of the show (Tina), who were really annoying (Rob C.) or both (Richard Hatch). It wasn’t exactly hard to see these coming.

Of course the big news was Sue Hawk quitting the game last night because of what Richard did at the last challenge. I have no doubt Richard, who has been playing up being a big dumb gay guy in a major way, thought that Sue would accept his gesture in the spirit it was intended: a crude joke. Richard and Sue spent time together on Borneo, and I think it's tough to spend any time around her without noticing that she has a particularly crude sense of humor, and she doesn't necessarily leave her genitals out of it. It was just last week's episode where she seemed to think it was really funny to pee on the raft the tribe had just built, while everyone was on it. Richard certainly pushed the joke way too far, but I think it's been well established he's an idiot.
