Anatomy 2

Anatomy 2 (2003) follows Jo (Barnaby Metschurat), an interning doctor at a Berlin hospital who is inducted into the "Anti-Hippocratics" after he shows tendency to circumvent rules if he thinks it will save lives. This local lodge of AH's are working on synthetic muscles, which they are testing by implanting them into their own bodies. This gives the lodge members super-strength, but all of them end up hooked on some variety of drugs. Super-strength and drug addiction -- there's a good combination.

Reservoir Doctors.

Anatomy 2 does a better job than the original Anatomy (2000) at coming up with something interesting for the Anti-Hippocratics to do. The artificial muscles are a good idea, though how these doctors are fabricating such revolutionary mechanisms is never even hinted at. The original film turned into a "everyone and his brother is in on the conspiracy" early on, while Anatomy 2 manages to avoid that until the last 20 minutes. Unfortunately once it does hit that point the movie becomes the usual orgy of unlikely action scenes and double-crosses that sometimes involve our hero knowing things he can't possibly know. It's a shame the makers of Anatomy 2 weren't a bit more familiar with how a really good thriller is built.

Poor Franka Potente. Because she starred in the original Anatomy she briefly reprises her character here, to no real effect. Her character has less to do here than in her other near-pointless sequel appearance in The Bourne Supremacy (2004).
