Scott's Random Thought for the Day (Mary Begets Jesus)

You may have heard about the water stain that appeared on the side of a building owned by a car loan company in Clearwater, FL that some people claim is an image of the Virgin Mary. The image went for years without being noticed, but eventually became a sensation; a church bought the building and turned it into a ministry. Earlier this year someone used a slingshot to break the top two panes of glass, destroying the image. At first the church blamed Satanists (uh huh), but it turned out to be the work of a bored teen, who was probably upset that sprinkler build-up on a window got more attention than he did.

Apparently money is getting tight at the ministry (and praying for Mary to reappear didn't work), because now they're claiming to have found Jesus' face in the remains of the window. You can see it here. The palm tree is supposed to be the mouth. Even by the standards of divine images found in stains, this one's a bit of a stretch. Even if I was willing to believe that God spent His time painting images of his family on the sides of buildings, I can't help but think He could do better than this. It really makes me pine for the days when religious art was some of humanity's greatest achievements, like the Sistine Chapel. Now people are treating real-life scenes like the back of Mad Magazine looking for divine images.
